Which came
first: the drum
or the egg?
Okay, this one has stumped the editor,
the staff, and all the writers. Obviously
made of fiberglass, but they are not
Fibes. The picture seems to be from the
70’s.

Bun E. Carlos,s • Ludwig Collection Spotlight
I
n the 1920’s, “Black
Beauties” were offered
in 4˝, 5˝, and 6 1/2˝ depths,
14˝ and 15˝ diameters, with
6, 8, or 10 lugs, with art gold,
nickel, or chrome plating, in
super sensitive or standard
models. Throw in different
styles of engraving, scroll or
flowered patterns, and you
have lots and lots of models.
Just ask Mike Currotto, maybe
the only person who might
have one of each model!
The 6 1/2˝ are very scarce,
and command a premium
price, compared to most
Black Beauties.
Mr. Carlos plays drums for
some band called Cheap
Trick, and has a house full
of Ludwig drums.
