of the thin but very dense steel shells made them highly sensitive. So a large 18 inch floor tom will have a low frequency and
vibrate at a higher rate and will be louder and lower in tone
than the same size drum made of wood or plastic.
added weight of the toms and mounting tom bracket would
not bend the shell. Also, the bass drum spur legs supported
extra weight and they two were re-enforced with the washers
and a plate. These added quirks made them costly to manufacture.
