The set was the classic pro-beat set and
had a 8 x 12, 9 x13, tom toms, two 16
x 16 floor toms and a 22 inch bass. The
diamond tom holder on the bass was
stripped and the set was quite dirty.
Stainless steel won’t rust but it will tarnish. Scratches and dents are hard to
get out but not impossible. Fortunately
there were only surface problems and a
few parts to replace. The boy told me I
could only buy the set if I promised to
take care of it. He felt a sense of responsibility for the drum set going to the
wrong hands and being abused. I promised him I would. Before I could even get
started on the set I got another call from
a gentleman who played drums for his
church. He was in his 50s and told me
he had a stainless steel set he bought as
a young man and wanted to sell it to buy
an electronic set to play in his church. So
I bought those too.
